KVRTA to Offer Free Services for Senator Byrd Memorial Services

Charleston, WV: KVRTA will be providing free shuttle services for those who choose to take part in the funeral procession on Thursday, July 1st and for the memorial service for Senator Robert C. Byrd on Friday, July 02, 2010. In addition, KVRTA will operate all regular service on Friday free of charge so that all who may choose to participate in the historic events that day may do so.
On Thursday July 1, 2010 the Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (KVRTA) will provide free shuttle service after the funeral procession from Greenbrier Street at the Governor's driveway, returning to the Robert C. Byrd United States District Courthouse, Charleston Civic Center and Laidley Street Transit Mall. KVRTA will provide the shuttle that evening with their Diesel Electric Hybrid buses that were funded primarily through the efforts of Senator Byrd. The Hybrid shuttle is available to transport those persons, who have chosen to walk with the procession to the Statehouse, back to the Courthouse or the aforementioned downtown parking areas. The shuttle will operate approximately every 20 minutes from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
On Friday, July 2, 2010 KVRTA will, in addition to all regular scheduled service, provide free shuttle service to the Memorial Service for Senator Byrd. The public memorial service will be held on the North side of the Capitol Building beginning at 11:30 AM.
KVRTA trolleys will operate the special shuttle service approximately every 20 minutes from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Friday and service the following stops.
- Stop #1 – Robert C. Byrd US District Courthouse on Truslow Street
- Stop #2 – Civic Center Drive & Clendenin Street (Charleston Town Center)
- Stop #3 – KVRTA Laidley Street Transit Mall
- Stop #4 – State Capitol complex on Greenbrier Street at the Governor's Driveway
Due to limited parking in and around the event areas, KVRTA is urging everyone to take advantage of this free service for their safety and convenience.
